What is IVDD in dogs?
Think of your dog’s spine like a chain of bones with soft, jelly-filled cushions (discs) between them to absorb shock. IVDD (short for Intervertebral Disc Disease) happens when these cushions harden, bulge, or burst open. When that happens, the disc presses against the spinal cord, causing sudden pain, nerve damage, weakness, or even trouble walking. It is similar to a severe "slipped disc" or "herniated disc" in humans.
